Lesson 1 - Objectives

From the study design:

  • Nucleic acids as information molecules that encode instructions for the synthesis of proteins: the structure of DNA, the three main forms of RNA (mRNA, rRNA and tRNA) and a comparison of their respective nucleotides

By the end of this lesson you should be able to...

  • Identify the monomer and polymers for nucleic acids
  • Draw and label a DNA nucleotide
  • Draw and label an RNA nucleotide
  • Identify a condensation polymerisation reaction, including the input (energy) and the output (water)
  • Compare DNA and RNA (bases, number of strands, pentose sugar molecule)
  • Know that DNA and RNA strands have direction (5′ and 3′)
